Some of our best information about daily life in ancient Egypt 4,000 years ago comes from the tombs of the dead. Model scenes and boats, which were included in tombs, can offer a fascinating glimpse of what life was like for the living. Using objects from tombs of the Middle Kingdom, Denise Doxey, curator, Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art, discusses what tomb remains can teach us about daily life in an Egyptian province, such as the types of houses people lived in, what they wore and ate, how they traveled and farmed, and how they made necessities like clothing, furniture, food, and beer.
