Roger Sayer. Roger Sayer stands at the forefront of British choral and organ music. A former organ student at St. Paul’s Cathedral, he was the Prize Winner at the 1989 St Albans International Organ Competition and received all available organ prizes at the Royal College of Music. Since then, he has built a distinguished international career as both a recitalist and accompanist, performing around the world. A versatile and collaborative artist, Sayer has recorded a soundtrack for a Sony video game and worked alongside jazz saxophonist Mark Lockheart and composer John Ashton Thomas on the album Salvator Mundi. His most widely recognized work is as the organ soloist on Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-nominated score for the film Interstellar. Sayer’s haunting performance became a defining element of the film’s emotional depth, and he later joined Zimmer for a live screening of the film at London’s Royal Albert Hall, as well as performances on the composer’s world tour—including a special appearance at the O2 Arena. In addition to his work as a concert organist, Sayer is an acclaimed choral director. He founded the Rochester Cathedral Girls’ Choir and served as Organist and Director of Music at Temple Church in London from 2013 to 2023. During his tenure, the choir earned widespread acclaim for its recordings, broadcasts, and live performances. He also launched a new youth choir at Temple Church, bringing together boys and girls in a shared tradition of excellence. Sayer worked closely with the London Symphony Chorus for ten years as accompanist and deputy chorus director, collaborating with many of the world’s leading conductors and soloists.
