Lance Hidy, artist
Explore the artistic techniques of persuasion in poster design with the award-winning artist, Lance Hidy. Known for social and cultural advocacy Hidy shares his inspiration in creating memorable examples of this medium.
Hidy is best known for his poster work, from hand-printed silk screens, to designs made with digital tools. Adobe commissioned him to adapt his poster lettering into the typeface Penumbra, a family of 16 fonts, and the U S Postal Service turned to Mr. Hidy to design three postage stamps. Hidy was chosen by Ansel Adams to design the last book of his career (Yosemite and the Range of Light), and continues to design books for the Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust.
After attending the demonstration, visit the exhibition “The Art of Influence: Propaganda Postcards from the Era of World Wars” to see examples of striking graphics and caricatures from the first half of the 20th century used to justify political agendas.
