The Arts

Explore this new exhibition with Dakota DeVos, Curatorial Research Fellow, Contemporary Art and Boston artist, Teddy Benfiel. Discover 15 mixed-media sculptures created by Claes Oldenburg from 2016 to 2017, shown alongside 17th-century Dutch still lifes from the MFA’s collection. In each sculpture Oldenburg has arranged a carefully choreographed still life of hand-made objects that take their inspiration from some of his most iconic installations and artworks. Self-reflective, subversive, and humorous, each composition is a meditation on Oldenburg’s own career, his place in Pop art, and his contributions to the tradition of still lifes. Hear the perspective of contemporary artist, Teddy Benfield as he discusses this work and its relation to his own practice.
