Join Nancy Berliner, Wu Tung Curator of Chinese Art, to learn about the restoration of a 12-foot-high hanging scroll portrait of the mythological figure Marshall Xin, the “Thunder Guardian,” dating back to China’s Ming dynasty, now on view for the first time. In Daoism, the popular belief system in imperial China, Marshall Xin was believed to be able to to control ghosts and spirits, summon thunder and rain, and avert evil. Hear also about the 20 other works depicting demons and demon quellers on view in “Conservation in Action: Demons and Demon Quellers.”
