Explore how text can function as a key aspect of an artwork. Writing— from signatures, and inscriptions, to illuminated manuscripts and decorated calligraphy—commonly decorates and appears on visual and material culture. Graduate student lecturer Alex Yen examines objects from various periods and places that incorporate the art of writing into the world of images.
