Gold and silver appear everywhere, as coinage, statuary, and smaller luxury objects. But what else expresses value? Purple dye, bronze, and porcelain, all possessed equal or similar significance to its “glittery” counterparts during various periods of time. Take a closer look at a selection of works related to this theme with graduate student lecturer, Alex Yen. We will explore the wider concept of luxury and value, the lasting and various applications of gold and silver in different cultures, and its use in art and material culture.
