Ms. Newsome has been called a “Plein Air Sculptor” and is often seen sketching with wet clay outdoors. She is presently commissioned by the Audrain Automobile Museum to create 14 life sized glazed Terracotta Faience Lions for the roof of the museum.
Ms. Newsome received a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and teaches with Harvard University Ceramics. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at RISD Museum, Mobile Museum of Art, Beatrice Wood Museum, Ojai, Ca., Fuller Craft Museum, Ma., Newport Art Museum and Federal Museum Ben Franklin Biblioteca, Mexico City. She’s been part of group exhibitions in Jingdezhen , China, Paris, France and Budapest, Hungary. Ms. Newsome is a member of the 2016 NetWorks Project. Her work at the Newport Art Museum will be featured on PBS.

Explore the beauty and detail of sculpting with architectural clay. Allison Newsome will be working on a life sized 3-D sculpture ‘Terpischore’ inspired by Ron Fleming’s spectacular gardens at Bellevue House in Newport, RI. She will also demonstrate the use of flowers and fruits to create festooned garlands framing her roundels, an ancient rite symbolizing loyalty, dedication, memory and the transition to eternal life. Glazing techniques using majolica, a white glaze base, will also be featured. Afterward, visit the exquisite glazed terracotta Renaissance works by della Robbia on display in gallery 184.
