Lydia Vagts, Cunningham Associate Conservator of Paintings
Science and technology can help us discover valuable information about paintings. Using X-rays and infrared reflectology, it was possible to make several discoveries about some of the Italian masterpieces in the MFA’s collection, including Botticelli’s Virgin and Child with Saint John the Baptist and panels from the Monopoli Altarpiece. Join Lydia Vagts, Cunningham Associate Conservator of Paintings, for an up-close look at the technical studies of these paintings and discuss what goes undetected by the naked eye.
