The Arts

Join sculptor and data translator Nathalie Miebach as she demonstrates how she weaves scientific data into sculpture. She demonstrates her main method of translating through basket weaving techniques: twining and plating. In contrast to this methodical process, she also demonstrates how she explores form and color in small playful sculptures she calls “The Little Ones.” Afterwards, visit Gallery 328 in “Women Take the Floor” to see contemporary textiles with new understanding in “Beyond the Loom: Fiber as Sculpture/Subversive Threads.”

Nathalie Miebach explores the intersection of art and science by translating scientific data related to meteorology, ecology, and oceanography into woven sculptures and musical scores and installations. She is the recipient of numerous awards and residencies and has shown her work in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. She teaches at Massachusetts College of Art and conducts workshops all over the country. For more information, visit www.nathaliemiebach.com.
