Ryan Sallans is an internationally known transgender speaker and author. Beginning his transition from female-to-male in 2005, Ryan’s story was first shared through the documentary Gender Rebel on the LOGO network. He then went on to appear on various talk shows and in magazines, where he shared his experiences as a transgender man living in the Heartland. As a speaker, Ryan works with corporations, federal agencies, healthcare institutions and universities to assist with shifting policies and moving climates to being more LGBTQ inclusive. Ryan’s book, Second Son: Transitioning Toward My Destiny, Love and Life intimately explores his transition experience and his recovery from an eating disorder. He is currently working on his second book, which explores life post-transition, and moves into the other transitions that we all experience as we age in society.

In his lecture, Second Son: A Reading and Conversation on Trans Identities and Relationships, Ryan will speak to his relationship with family, romantic partners, colleagues, and self. He’ll also address our changing world, and our understanding of gender identity and expression, from childhood to adulthood.
