The Arts

Explore the fascinating world of supersized printmaking. Join us for a special five-hour program featuring visual artists from throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic as they converge at the MFA to print giant hand-carved woodblocks on a 4’ x 8’ mobile printing press. The press, appropriately named “The Big Tuna,” is a one-of-a-kind piece of printing equipment created by BIG INK, a New Hampshire–based company that brings together creative thinkers focused on carving, printing, and promoting the art of large-scale relief printing.

Since the project’s inception, hundreds of artists have participated in BIG INK events across the country. Participants for our MFA program include BIG INK’s director Lyell Castonguay with invited guests Jun Lee, Michael Rich, Daryl Storrs, Anita Hagan, Sarah Koff and Scott Minzy. In addition to being the director of BIG INK, Lyell Castonguay is a printmaker and teacher whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
