The Arts

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Boston-Kyoto sister city relationship, two extraordinary artists visit the MFA from Kyoto, Japan, to demonstrate their craft for visitors.

From Noon to 1:20 pm, Akira Murayama, a highly acclaimed woodworker, demonstrates traditional woodworking joining techniques that don’t require nails or glue. Murayama is followed by Gyokusen Mochizuki, a distinguished lacquerware artist, who demonstrates her decorative urushi techniques from 1:40 to 3 pm.
